I was asked by marketing to make instructions for DDR Universe 2 demo at 24 hour fitness so I made a song list. I made the list to have songs getting faster gradually and it assumed that difficulty was fixed at BEGINNER. After the first demo, I was asked to make it harder because everybody felt a bit too easy and they wanted to get more sweaty. Then I made version 2. However, I was asked to make it even harder after the second demo. I was surprised that people learned so fast! I guessed that people in demo were non-gamer so I tried to get down to their level I could imagine. Actually they didn't have evaluation for each step because we cannot utilize real game dance mats for many people. They used printed sheet. May be that helped also because they don't feel to fail at each step. It is important to try to follow the instruction and it is not to know success or fail. They think that they are doing well. Finally I had to set the difficulty higher to BASIC. Then you will not have visual play sample in the game screen and difficulty gets much higher than BEGINNER. I am a bit worried, but also I am looking forward to hearing the feedback of version 3. This experience helps me to design workout features in DDR Universe series.
