I wish Konami would revive this game. It's way more noob friendly than any other rhythem based game I've seen them put out but can keep players challenged to more difficult levels. Has anyone else had the chance to try this game? I'm lovin my 3rd bemani cab right now ^^

the series never made an impact here in US. It would be nice to see it though. I have not heard about this since 2000.

I think these arcade cabinets were expensive to produce..

It's fun, and it's definitely got a sweet selection of songs (especially 2nd mix Jparadise), and I enjoy playing it between rounds of ITG when I'm at my arcade.  Problem is it that the game is too easy, which is probably why it didn't last longer.  It took me about 3 rounds of play to be able to play the most difficult songs in the game.

ED, do you play on doubles? I know what you mean about singles being too easy but when you start doing doubles it can get pretty stressful ^^

Huge fan of DMX. :)

If you play long enough, you'll eventually FC everything on wild doubles. It's more a matter of the sensors being properly adjusted. But sometimes the sensors just hate you for no reason. The IR was full of perfect scores if I remember correctly, which sounds about right.

I think 2nd+ is a hard game to score on because both "perfect" and "great" appear as "OK" when you hit a donut. Imagine if DDR said "great" for either a perfect or a great, but still scored your perfects and greats correctly. That would be so wrong. We had a couple DMX tournaments at TGA but they didn't go so well. It was pretty much just "OK. OK. OK. OK. *300 combo* OK. OK. pad miss. OK. OK." by both players. They don't even tell you how many perfects and greats or OKs/Misses you got. All you get is a graph of your total OKs and a score.

I agree though, it has excellent "noob appeal" (I hate using that word, but you said it not me). The cabinet is the opposite of intimidating, the game is easier than DDR, but yet it still has all the essential rhythm game elements. I've seen some people tap on the sensors like drums, and I've seen some people miss all of the blues, but for the most part you can't make a more obvious arcade game without puting a light gun on it. Even Jubeat is scarier than DMX.

EDIT: I've also seen firsthand that Taiko No Tatsujin also has A+ "noob appeal", and that people miss all the blues in that game too.

A crappy machine made a bad first impression on me.  I was playing Heaven is a '57 gray when I saw a simple series of double-reds following the quarter-notes of the song.  Despite waving my hands over the sensors, I managed to miss every single one.

I have yet to play it again since then.

I saw Catastrophe play DMX Doubles a couple years ago at TGA and my jaw dropped.  The man can dance!

I like DMX, but I'm too tall for the bottom sensors.

It's time for dance.

Like EvilDave said, it's not challenging enough for long-term "serious" play. It is pretty fun though.

Also you can pass most of the doubles wild stuff by just failing more or less, well, wildly.

Uh, except I have, and I pretty easily passed the Paranoia Jazzy/Trip Machine Climax/Dead End "course" that way. It's overall less challenging then Para Para. That doesn't mean either isn't fun; they're just not difficult.

Can you rein in your ego for any appreciable length of time, moose, because I really don't think you can.

What does my ego have to do with your bs? Not letting you get away with posting crap doesn't have anything to do with me. Oh, wait, I guess in a world where an extreme machine can make 800$ per hour you COULD just flail randomly at DMX and pass it ^^

How is it BS if he's played a course and passed it?  I would hope that's enough experience in the game to make somewhat of an opinion about whether or not he likes the amount of difficulty in it.  If he likes it, great.  If he doesn't like it, whatever.  Not everyone has to think exactly like you do.

Also, why is it bad for ranatalus to direct the conversation toward your ego (which certainly shows in the majority of your posts), but it's perfectly acceptable for you to dig up an argument about how much money an Extreme machine makes in an hour?

You actually sound like you know what you're talking about in the Arcade Specific boards, but now, you're just kicking dust in people's faces to p!ss them off.  There's a reason people have such little respect for you.

.....

wow. the total lack of anything resembling an intelligent remark is amazing. First he says he's played dmx wild doubles just by flailing. This is absolutely impossible. If you don't hit the right sensors in the right order, you fail. Him claiming to have done so is nothing less than an attempt at a shot at -me- for saying that there's this great game out there.
My ego has nothing whatsoever at all to do with it. If he's trying to insult me by saying I have a big ego, that's too bad for him. And it's too bad for you to be bandwagoning that way. He's trying to 'support' his impossible claims by levelling personal attacks at me. If that's the way you do things too, well, I'm glad I don't hafta hang out with you ever ^^

So what he did was make yet another absolutely impossible claim and try to slag me for it. I called bs, but reminded everyone that he's done this before. You think it's appropriate for him to try to look down his nose at me and the games I like to play? I guess if that's how you try to gain popularity online *shrug*

Hey, I just found out the other day there some people have different opinions on things.  I also found out some people are better at some games than I am.  Weird, huh?

Did you also just learn how to try to troll someone in 8 different threads today? Or is that something you've been doing for a long time?

And it's too bad for you to be bandwagoning that way.

That's funny, I could've sworn I used basic grammar and punctuation in my statements, making sure that they could be read with a decent amount of ease...or maybe you just think intelligence equals fellating you and your beliefs while disagreeing with you is ignorance.

You're right, how stupid of us to have our own opinions.

My ego has nothing whatsoever at all to do with it.

Neither does the amount of money an Extreme machine brings in.  Maybe you were trying to reference an earlier incident, but to people who don't go digging for older arguments, this just looks like you're pulling random crap out of left field.

This is absolutely impossible. If you don't hit the right sensors in the right order, you fail. Him claiming to have done so is nothing less than an attempt at a shot at -me- for saying that there's this great game out there.

Wait, wait, let me see if I understand this correctly...

"Hey there, I'm making an unproven claim about my ability to play a game."
"YOUR WORDS HAVE DISHONORED ME AND MY FAMILY! PREPARE FOR DIVINE RETRIBUTION!!"

There's a difference between standing up for your beliefs and blowing things out of proportion with unnecessary attacks.

If that's the way you do things too, well, I'm glad I don't hafta hang out with you ever ^^

That's not how I do things, but I promise that you can't be any happier about this fact than I am.

What truly scares me is that you can constantly have these kinds of arguments throughout the forums and honestly believe that you're in the right.

EDIT:  Wow, I didn't even see your new post.

He's trying to 'support' his impossible claims by levelling personal attacks at me.

personal attacks

I've made a theory.  You've got to be a troll.  There's no way someone can have your method of thinking and actually be serious about it.

Uh...Anyways.

I played DMX a few times. I found it extremely fun. The first time I played it was at a mall in Oregon. It was 25 cents for a whole round! I found it very fun, and some weird 50 year old guy came up and played with me. He was really good, but he kept choosing easy songs because he was afraid I was going to fail or something.

The second time I played it was at Circus Circus in Las Vegas. Man, that place had EVERYTHING. IIDX Red, DMX, ParaParaParadise 2nd mix, two DDR Extremes, a fourth mix plus, a Disney's Rave, Mambo a go go, and a GF/DM machine. Then they ripped everything out except for one of the DDR Extremes, and now the area is filled with Gauntlet Legends and racing games *sigh*.What sucks is that they really had no reason to. They would get 50 people at one time on the weekends. Now, they're lucky to have 10 people in there at the same time.

It's on the high tier of underrated BEMANI for me. I love this game. The one near me is Dance Freaks, though.

I find DMX boring. I feel it's too simple. It's a great game to freestyle though if you're into that.

I absolutley love this game :D It is pretty easy, but is very fun, and I love the music selection also. I play this every once and a while at my local arcade, but not quite as fun as DDR imo...

This guy is good:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4elg6KEZD74&feature=related

DMX is very easy if you're already familiar with DDR. It's also decently easy even if you're new to rhythm games. You know how on a SN2 the lifebar is rediculously nice to you on the first stage? DMX has that kind of a lifebar. So it is very, very easy. Although flailing on wild doubles is an obvious exaggeration. (Which I think even moose understood after one post.) You won't be able to clear any of the 9s by randomly flailing. but you probably could clear a 9* with a max combo less than 20. (Nines only exist on wild doubles.)

If this game were seriously competitive, somehow, I think the PA and freestyle competitive aspects would be merged. Like, the machine gives you an accuracy score, and the judges give you an arbitrary style score. So if you AAA the game while the judges give you a 9.2 for style, then your combined score is 96%. And the highest score wins. But I can't imagine this actually happening. DDR freestyle often takes serious preparation which makes it kind of rare. Even if you're improving you have to know what you're doing. DMX freestyle is easier to execute, but it's still got DDR's obstacles. (That, and most people can't dance.)

Yep, but I'd still be nice (civil?) for him to admit he's full of bs and just ragging on it 'cuz I expressed appreciation for it.

You can totally pass songs with low combos, as a miss generally mostly affects your grade, not your life bar. You go from S to C with one miss, but your life bar only goes down a very little bit. I also love how when you search youtube for dance maniax you get 1 guy playing madblast and then everyone else is freestyling in one form or another. Way, way more freestyle (actual dancing?) on DMX than any other game I can think of.
