What was the reason for including this into Supernova/2? Was it that they lost rights to their own videos? Didn't want to pay anyone to make movies?

I really think they dumb down the game because I want a colorful experience when I play, and I will vouch for all casual players that they would probably prefer random videos/dedicated videos over dancer stage. I know that in my experience, the videos really attract the casual players and keep the players happy.

I feel when I play that I am now only focusing on my timing. Do I really want that? I know that for some timing is good, but I want the full experience as well.

I really don't care to see only characters and them dancing on a stage. It's really ugly.

I mean hell look at all of the other Bemani games they ALL HAVE VIDEOS (except pop'n) BUT THEY ALL HAVE VIDEOS. Wtf guys.

Without the videos, in my eyes, I also feel that the game is strictly about stepping and hitting the arrows (duh, but in a different view). It doesn't make me want to jump around, it doesn't make me want to dance, and I don't feel I am having a good time. When the random/dedicated videos are added, I feel like i'm having a lot more fun. It's really hard to explain that one.

Share your hate with me D:

Random background videos would be acceptable too, if nothing else. The dancing stages just flat out suck.

They're so horribly designed. They're trying to make characters actually dance to songs like Faxx where they just end up moving impossibly fast and/or look like they're having a seisure. It looks stupid to us and probably infinitely more ridiculous to onlookers, which probably even hurts the game's image to people not familiar with it.

The videos were always a source of fun. Alot of the time I'll play a song because I want to see the video, or someone else does. They're fun, quirky, colourful, overall excellent additions to the experience.

I still do this with DMGF/IIDX because they STILL have dedicated videos to EVERY SONG, something DDR never had.

I don't know why they're willing and able to make separate videos to every single song in the massive libraries of IIDX and DMGF, every mix, but won't do it at all with DDR. There's really no reason at all not to have videos in DDR since they exist on other Bemani titles.

Extreme 2/Str!ke?

And if you count generic videos/visualizations as "dedicated videos" (that's about 1/5 of IIDX's songlist, if we count overlay, we might as well count banners as well), Extreme and below.

I know what you mean, the dancer does look really stupid at times, and the stages just make the game feel cheap. I just like to nitpick.

The Extreme videos are equally crappy. Boring, repetitive (Hi Wild Rush), and annoying at times. I honestly couldn't choose between SuperNOVA/Extreme BGs because I find them both annoying.

What I do like are the seemingly IIDX-inspired videos in SN2 (A thing called LOVE, Freeway Shuffle, etc. etc.) and it would be awesome if Konami could put those into most songs, instead of a select few.

This.

The new SuperNOVA2 videos are incredible. I would absolutely love to see more of them.

Which is what they did in EX2. IIRC, all of the songs had their own special video, and they were all brand new.

Was KOA (or whoever made it) thinking that EX2 would be the last game so they went all out? They should feel this way about every game they make.

Yeah, but I want more SN2 style videos than EX2. Extreme 2's videos WERE a lot better than Extreme's, but they were pretty much just random crap still. SN2's videos have more of a unique feel to them, as many IIDX videos do.

Couldn't agree with the general consensus of the members commenting in this thread more.

"Was KOA (or whoever made it) thinking that EX2 would be the last game so they went all out? They should feel this way about every game they make"

Interestingly EX2's European equivalent Dancing Stage Max feels this way too. Either every song has a it's original music video (mostly in the case of the licences), or has a relevant video to go with it. The whole mix just feels that much more solid because of this.

I would say I do like the new character models which actually look and move more realistically, Jenny and Rage look so shapely and sexy that they are almost instant favourites, however then watching them dance in those horrid 3D environments just spoils the idea and just clashes with the arrows.

I mean if you had them dancing in a more neutral environment like a back alley club, a boardwalk or on an actual stage the effect would look a lot better. If the character and 3D environments really are here to stay then at least work on improving them. Give us realistic models dancing in places and ways people would, maybe with clever features like them actually interacting with the environment, spinning round poles leaping up and down levels and maybe having other characters join in the dance the better you do.

Of course honestly I'd much rather have the dedicated music videos overall.

I always say We don't need more dance character in DDR arcade, maybe put the dancer to pick up the song.... but no show in the middle of the game.. change it for videos ala SN2 style, and show the dancer in the final score, and if Konami want  do crossover songs..... please KEEP THE VIDEO !!! Examples:

Xepher, DoLL, Venus, Blind Justice, Raspberry Heart, STARS -Retuned By hal-, Bloody Tears IIDX Edition............etc etc... plus new videos from SN2 like: Vem Brincar, Freeway Shuffle, Unreal (in this case the video MADE the song), Paranoia -Hades- (great creepy video), Trip Machine Phoenix, A thing Called Love and Music Is In The Rhythm... honestly tne videos help so much to the songs... I mean is not just a song .......is a experience, well that's my opinion.

P.S.: I know I know My english sucks... sorry about that.

I'm probably the only person who actually prefers the SN/SN2 dancers over random movies like in Extreme.  I don't really know why.

But I obviously prefer dedicated videos over anything else.

i really don't know as to why they moved from random movies to dancer stages...

..probably to switch things up a bit? idk, but i WOULD take random/song videos anyday instead of dancer stages...

..however it might cause a problem (too distracted to view the video...i've had that problem before =P) but it's much better than watching a dancer have a seizure while playing FAXX lol.

konami should stop being lazy and create those dedicated videos ala IIDX for DDR songs, the dancers, especially the stage where it has a very bright yellow color which makes it playing with rainbow arrows very very confusing, should be scrapped.

Some of the dancer stages were not bad (some others were very harsh mind you)

I think what Konami should is one of two things

1: Use movies on all songs (prefer the sn2 type since the Extreme2/Strike ones were bad to see the arrows as well)

or

2: Give the player the option to choose his/her dancer stages like in the console.

Just give players the options to choose between videos or dancers on stages and everyone'll be happy.

The dancer stages are okay, in my opinion. But I have to admit that after a while it could kinda get boring. I liked some of the videos of the old school  (mind you those are in SuperNOVA SuperNOVA2) (heh Twin Bee Generation X) but I think that they should have the option between alterating.

The dancer stages are okay, but some of them are bright red or blue or yellow or something, and they make certain arrows (ala Rainbow and Note) impossible to see. I remember getting a red background stage while playing a 10 footer with Note on and failing it. I had to take my focus away from the actual game and put it into figuring out where the heck the red arrows were in the red background. It's like trying to find the needle in the haystack but at 300 bpm. Not fun.

I agree that the SN2 videos are amazing. More of them.

Also, for crossovers like Bloody Tears and Blind Justice the videos were taken from IIDX. Why can't all the IIDX crossovers have their IIDX videos? I mean, they're already made, why not utilize them?

If SuperNOVA2 is any indication, this will be the treatment for all future crossovers. Any new song that had a video available in another game featured that video in SuperNOVA2.

Well, some of them don't exactly have exclusive videos. Many IIDX songs just have generic videos with random video clips, often just showing "BEATMANIA IIDX" against some moving background.

wow, i didn;t realize people hated the dancers so much.

personally I  LOVE the supernova/2 dancers. Infact I like the new dancer better than the classic videos becuause the dancers and their routines just seem so incedibly life-like without while at the same time maintaining the "this is only a video game" feel.

i will say that i didnt like the way dancers looked so rediculous for the higher bpm songs. I think that people at konami should be able to look at a song and be able to say "oh boy this songs too fast the dancers will look rediculous dancing to this bpm" giving the artists reason to make exclusive vids for the higher bpm songs.... (???)

thats just what i think.

I agree with Snapps.

The dancers were just wierd, the stages boring.

Supernova 2 was not the greatest PS2 DDR game.

At least in Hottest Party the dancers and stages look better.

And those characters dress so improper..

The dancer stages are fine. o_o; Imo.

I'd imagine having videos for every song takes up space on the game, so making 300 song's worth of videos (or like... 50-100 for console games? Iono) would be a little crazy, even if it is done well on other... games. Well er. Maybe that statement isn't valid... >_> I like videos as much as the next person, only I do think a few of them are kinda distracting.

But characters > videos. And like. If the videos would mean sacrificing the characters then I'd go for the stages. :P

Sig limits suk. :P
