Dear DDR Arcade Fans,

Thank you for being a loyal DDR fan.

We really value your continued support of our products.

Today, we would like to hear your voice for our next product.

As you may or may not know, we are planning to add a new feature to our next version of DDR Arcade.

This new feature will allow you to create/edit your own step chart data using your PC and allow you to use your own original step chart on the new DDR Arcade machine.

We are currently evaluating whether to allow this data transfer through the use of a USB device or an SD card.  This is where all you fans come in.  We would like to know whether you would rather be able to use a USB device or an SD card to transfer your step chart data to the next DDR Arcade machine.

Any comments or suggestions from you, would be greatly appreciated.

We would like to know which device you would rather use and why.

We look forward to getting your input.

Best regards,

Konami Arcade Team

Hi : )

If this is a choice between USB Device or SD Card, and only one gets to be used, I'd go with the SD Card, for sure!

Why:

1) SD Card's can be transfered into a USB device

2) SD Card's are also found in camera's and cell phones (Mini SD's)

3) SD Card's are generally cheaper.

4) Many already have an SD Card for their Wii, so they can just use that one : )

5) It's more secure.

I'd almost say a tie but I was leaning more toward USBs initially. They don't break as easily, are harder to lose due to their size, and don't come in 3000 odd forms like SD cards do (minis, mini minis, the ones in the Wii, etc...?) That and you could release a lovely DDR-chara USB thing like they did in Japan. Except use both a male and female one.:]

Though for SD sizes, I've only seen two and a half... the mini ones in phones, the larger ones... and the "half" is some third size I've seen before but I forget what it's called or if it even exists. ^^;

Ahhh... other than that, their small size makes 'em easier to carry and they generally store more memory than USB drives... hmm. I guess I'm indecisive at this point. ^^;

Flash Drive, mainly because I have many more of these than SD cards, also, they are easier to load edits onto as opposed to an SD card, pretty much every computer has a USB port, but not all have card readers.

I chose SD cards because they are generally cheaper, and hold more than a USB drive at the same price. Maybe Konami can send a SD card holder and SD card converter to us. But I would probably use a USB drive more if we could use both because it can't be lost as easily.

Ideally, I would prefer support for BOTH formats (that way, every console and subsequent DDR home version games could be fair game for arcade link support.) :)

But if I had to choose one, I think USB drive support would be a better idea in the long run for 3 reasons:

1) Most USB drives have a ring or hook to connect to keychains, making it harder to lose compared to SD cards.

2) They're also more durable.

3) They're more accessible than SD card drives/readers. Like BeForU said, some computers don't have card readers. For those that DO have readers, it's really easy to copy over data from SD to USB.

It's really interesting that Konami is considering using PCs to create edits rather than the consoles.

I would prefer a USB drive, for pretty much all of the reasons mentioned above.

USB all the way, that was the initial form of the DDR X AC for the edits, and i want it to stick to it that way...

...or better yet, why not have both? (i will get onto that later, i need to address something first)

This new feature will allow you to create/edit your own step chart data using your PC and allow you to use your own original step chart on the new DDR Arcade machine.

...i thought we were going to be using the PS2 to make the edits, why are we using the PC? Also, if we ARE going to make the edits using the PC, what program will we be using, will we be using Stepmania or some other program that you guys are developing?

Anyways, wanted to get that out just to give you guys a heads up on this. Moving on...

So why not use both cards? Why? Because most (if not, all) Nintendo Wii's utilize SD Cards, and i DO believe DDR X will have some Hottest Party songs that some people would want to make edits for...

On a count of DDR X, just use USB because all PS2's have USB slots, although i still do not know how we would be able to transfer the data from the game into the USB slot...

Thanks =)

P.S. it's really nice to hear this from the KONAMI team, AT LEAST they give us some info on the AC of DDR X and are asking US what to do about certain features...

...we need more e-amuse >_> lol

USB support

If they're making a program for the PC, it better support more than 16th notes and allow the 12th notes to have freeze arrows.

How am I supposed to edit Pluto and Poseidon with the PS2's edit mode?

If I have to choose one, then USB.  It's typically faster than SD.  e.g. Readyboost can run on any USB Flash drive, and there are very high speed USBs now (e.g. Patriot's XT).

However, why not one-up the old 'competition' (you know what I mean) and add in support for both?

Well, I have no clue what either of them are (I just saw the USB device on a Japanese DDR website).  I'll go with either one.  (I voted for the USB device on the homepage).

I CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY BEFORU YOU SONGS ON DDR X!  Oh yeah, and some Matsuri Japan!

I'd say USB also.  Its already the standard for the Japanese version, and many ITG players already have USB flash drives.  Seems like theres a lot more potential with USB.

USB drive.  More convenient since a certain other dancing game already uses USB and you can put a USB drive on a keychain.  An SD card would be inconvenient to carry around :/

Definitely USB

Every console you are releasing the game on has USB support whereas only the Wii has SD card support.

Almost everyone who is technically literate enough to take advantage of this feature will have a USB key already. Many students have one to transfer files between home and their school, so the less people will have to spend to take advantage of this, the better.

USB ports are less easy to tamper with. You could easily stick pennies into an SD card slot.

And as other people have said not all PCs have SD card readers but 99.9% would have a USB slot.

The only benefit I see is that an SD card would fit nicely in your wallet, but then again you can put a USB key onto a key-chain.

And if I remember correctly, you can buy USB devices to put SD card in to. So in a sense you are supporting both with just 1 hardware slot.

Also to touch on what maxninja is saying... if you are going to use Stepmania to allow us to make PC edits how are you going to link, for example, 321 Stars on the DDR X with 321 Stars on Stepmania. Also who's to say the BPM and the "Gap" measurement are going to be the same. This just brings up a lot more questions which I wont bother asking here for the sake of keeping the thread relevant to the original question.

I highly doubt they will be using Stepmania. HIGHLY.

USB.  I've got about 4 or 5 different USB drives I used, compared to only 1 micro SD card I have for my phone.

I would say USB for a couple of reasons, for those of us who import the JP DDRX set, we can use that USB since DDR X in JP supports USB. SD cards are stupid, USB you can keep in your pocket and no where near as easy to snap in half like an SD, I bet if you know how you may be able to use a USB HDD, which would almost triple your data size not like you would need that for stepcharts :P. Anyway, USB.

If they are not using Stepmania, then what DO they mean by "using your PC to make the edits"?
