None; I like to feel no different playing Challenge mode than I do playing Standard mode.
However, I do recognize the scoring improvements with speed modifiers, and if I'm trying to learn an excruciatingly slow/bunched up song, I'll use them to learn. I hear DDR X will be implementing 0.5x increment speed modifiers, so that's nice.
I also hear DDR X will implement a "screen filter" modifier. This is something I could see myself using. That aside, I don't really feel there's any modifiers I feel are missing, although I'm admittedly not much of a modifier user.
SPEED MODS. I'm a shameless speed queen. My comfort zone is 400-480 BPM, but I can scootch over 500 without losing control. I would love a 2.5x and a 4x. If the rumors turn out to be true, and there will be .5 increment speed mods added, I will be a happy little camper.
Adding a "screen filter" mod would be right neighborly. I have the BGM brightness turned way down because certain backgrounds completely throw me - the fireworks in the second half of A and the vertically scrolling "demon graffiti" seen in several Trip Machines and Paranoias - and even then when those come up my accuracy suffers big-time.
Additionally, one mod I am fond of is "Dizzy" in ITG, which causes the arrows to whirl like pinwheels. Since I read arrows by column, not by the actual graphic, it doesn't foul me up much, and it amazes the onlookers. Plus, it's simply a fun challenge. As Konami owns ITG, it doesn't seem unreasonable to suggest it.
As for the rest of the mods, well, I don't pay attention to them. It's fun to watch others using them, but they aren't for me.
People dance without arrows?
CMODS!
Seriously, ITG had it right. For those of you who don't know how they work, they make the arrows scroll at some constant speed, and disqualify the score if there are any stops/BPM changes in the song. It would make it a lot easier to learn how the BPM gimmicks go, and for songs without changes, they let players pick a comfortable, familiar speed.
Personally, I would also like to see 1.25x for those songs that scroll at 400BPM, because with only 1 and 1.5 to choose from, I'm left with a 200BPM gap in scrolling speed, which is quite annoying, especially when I would prefer to read these songs at ~500BPM.
I would also like to ask that you please fix the Note skin. Fill the stupid thing in. As it is currently, the arrows are pretty much transparent, and I find it straining to read. Although I would prefer to use the colours of Note, I almost always go for Rainbow, because at least I can see those arrows.
I use the speed mods. 2x
Makes the game more fun for me.
Would love to see this option available online : )
I think instituting constant-rate mods defeats the purpose of even having speed changes in songs, but I guess that's just me.
I also don't think that any other speed mods are really needed but, again, that appears to just be me these days.
ITG didn't start CMods. Stepmania did.
Well, GF/DM did, but yeah.
I usually use speed mods and mods like Note on SN or Solo on Extreme and before.
It's hard to breathe when you're choking yourself
It's hard to see through eyes misleading.
I agree. Songs like Chaos and Max.(period) are pointless if you use a c-mod. I'm not saying that c-mods are OMG SO EVIL THEY SHOULD DIE but c-mods to tend to take the challenge out of songs.

I can't use c mods, 'cause my brain knows the song is slower but my eyes are like OHMAHGAWD FAST and I get confused. Same reason I can't use speed mods above like 1.5 or 2x.
MOAR 2-STEP IN DDR PLZ.
Well my main mods are speed mods and noteskin mods.
In Supernova and Supernova 2, I switch between Rainbow and Default depending on the bg movie of the song (example, I go Default on dancer videos and Rainbow on like Xepher)
I also hear about the extra 0.5x increment speed modifiers and screen filter" modifier.
With new stuff like 2.5X or 4X, this can do wonders.
For new mods. Maybe some new noteskins and inprove some of the olders ones like "Note"
Note needs to be filled in forsure.
Adding some random ITG ones wouldn't hurt too.
I use speed mods and Solo almost all of the time since I play for score, but since I have experience with 5th Mix I can still play modless if need be (say if the machine could use more Oni clear scores). Sometimes I'll mess around and see how well I can PA modless; it's a fun exercise for my patience.
Cmods would be great for beginners and experts. Disqualification on speed-change songs would encourage them to learn the speed changes/stops so they can play it normally. As for allowed songs, the entire point of speed mods is to make the arrows scroll at a comfortable speed. If (say) 400 is your optimal scroll rate, a Cmod would greatly improve your PA and would require fewer trips to the options menu.
As for me, I'd like to see either Hallway or Mini. Both of these allow for more arrows on the screen at once, which makes it easier to read at even faster scroll rates. In case someone isn't familiar with these ITG mods: Hallway changes the scroll perspective so the arrows start further away and come closer as they near the top (like looking down a bowling alley). Mini makes the arrows and targets much smaller, which puts a lot more space between each arrow.
Also, I agree that Note really needs to be opaque. A darker outline would help distinguish it better, too.
Proud to be serving in the United States Air Force.
I use Rainbow/Solo mostly and Note every so often. In terms of shapes, I do like the Cyber-shaped noteskins in SN2.
In terms of realistically adding things, I think it's about time HiddenSudden/Phantom and Fuwa Fuwa got implemented as part of the regular selection of mods. In terms of other mods though (aka ones from Stepmania), I'd like to see Boomerang and Beat.
I use no mods. If I ever use Solo/Rainbow it's because I like the look, not for visual aid.
My position on Cmods: I believe they should only be allowed on beginner/light mode, as a sort of training wheels. I think it's sad if Expert players can't learn tempo gimmicks. Why bother using Cmods if your score doesn't count anyway, you're only using them to get a better score...
Cmods are fine to include but you should follow the itg path with that and disqualify for scoring.
I play on "robot" which makes everything grey. I use it to stop being distracted by the colours that I can't tell apart due to colourblindness. I also have fun with "quick" and "stream" combined, and "add mine, blender, stomp" is fun too. It's a nice change to add "quick, stream" to a 7 to play randomly generated 11s.
"As for other Bemani news as it relates to the states, there is nothing to report."
>>ITG didn't start CMods. Stepmania did.
I know, but (at least in the build I have) they don't disqualify your score.
>>I think instituting constant-rate mods defeats the purpose of even having speed changes in songs, but I guess that's just me.
It allows people to learn how a song is meant to go before they have to play it with those speed changes in there (some are easy to work out, some are outright pointless and are just designed to annoy players). To the person saying they are just "training wheels", why can't Expert players have them too? It's not like we develop some psychic ability that allows us to predict what the chart is going to do next.
Guys there is already a constant rate option in IIDX and Pop'n, and it's always a constant scroll in GF/DM. What makes it in any way worse to add it to DDR.
kalamari - Stepmania's default Stepmania.ini/metrics.ini has the line Disqualification=0, meaning DQed mods won't disqualify your scores. Change it to 1 and it does (and on ITG, obviously the line is a 1 by default).
Personally I could care less if CMods show up on DDR or not. I'm not entirely sure if DDR's engine the way it currently is could even produce CMods, nor do I know if the current programmers want to take the time to modify it.
As for speed mods, I certainly want to see more, and as previously reported, in Universe 3 we're getting that request. While I'm thrilled about that, I just hope we can also see that be transplanted into X and future arcade versions. While I definitely feel that a lot of our requests on this site have been taken into account by Konami's US team (the team that makes the Universe series), I'm not so sure Konami's Japanese team has been hearing those requests (the team responsible for the "core" DDR series).

I was waiting for someone to mention this.
And this is my overall main worry about our suggestions and this site all together.
Yes chances are our suggestions will be seen by the US Team but arcade versions, the games we would like to see the changes. Only the Japanese Team can make these changes.
And sadly from what I am seeing and hearing, IMO I don't think any of our ideas or even the answers on these "Konami Ask" will reach that team.
Meh, I just use speed mods. I don't use any noteskin mods on DDR since I'm used to Vivid, but I play with the Metal noteskin in DDR, which is similar to Note I guess. :s
Id say C Mods would be fun
Ie. C600,C450
I use my 2x, and I use it almost exclusively. At one point, I began feeling like I was short-changing myself, and tried to switch to 1x, but pretty soon i realized that I just wasn't having any fun, and then what's the point?
Anyway, in regards to modifiers, I would suggest the ability to choose a 'default' set of modifiers in the options for those of us who use a certain modifier all the time, or at least most of the time. I would love it if 2x was always my default option.
Cmods are for lazy players who don't want to learn some tempo-changes/freezes. They dumb down the game and encourage those same lazy players to set up two players, have one side on a cmod, watch that screen, and perform on the other side where a cmod isn't enabled to get a "valid" score.
You guys have it right with 0.5x increments in speed mods, keep that.
As far as modifiers go. I don't use them unless I'm forced to in an oni course. This is by choice. If I play 1p mode, it's usually to practice/score on songs, rather than add some challenge to them by throwing in modifiers.
That being said, I'm a self and peer-proclaimed mod-*****. I could never get enough of ITG's mod-filled marathons, nor can I get enough of charts like Chaos (yes, screw everybody, I like it).
You can only arrange four arrows in so many ways before you've seen it all a million times before, and I'm at that point. Modifiers and gimmicks keep the game fresh and open up tons of opportunities for growth and experiment to challenge us in new ways to keep a rather linear game from going stale.
To this day, you guys have only made ONE oni course with mods in it, Trick, and that was in Extreme.
PLEEEEEEASE make like ITG and implement mod-filled courses.
