Hi all –

We noticed a lot of different conversations about what you would like in future installments of DDR, and if there might be a DDR for PS3. While we have not announced new installments in the series (yet :-), we would love to hear your thoughts. So, a two part question, then…

Would you like a DDR for PS3? If so, what would you like to see in it? If not, why?

We are very much looking forward to hearing your thoughts, we truly appreciate your feedback! Many thanks! – The Konami Team

I would LOVE a DDR on the PS3 (with official pads of course)! It would be nice to see some sort of "rebirth of DDR" edition with a TON of songs included. Also, a robust online portion would be welcomed and appreciated. I'd love to not only play against people around the world, but also to download songs from the full back catalog of DDR music from the beginning. I would be willing to fork over quite a bit of cash to do this, as I'm sure most of the hardcore fans would.

One thing I don't feel is necessary is a graphics overhaul or anything like that. While it would be nice, there's no point in beefing up the 3D arenas. Nice background vids are sufficient for each song, IMO. To me, DDR is all about the great selection of music and watching the arrows scroll up (or down) the screen in varying speeds and colors/styles. But the backgrounds are just that, backgrounds. Leave them there.

And finally, does this mean we have a PS3 DDR on the way? ;)

There is really no need for a PS3 DDR. The PS2 is still going strong. I've seen discussions like this on othner sites before. if you want something that looks and plays like it would come close to a PS3 version, get DDR Universe.

Besides... when PS2 came out, it could play BOTH the old 3 ddr PS1 games (DDR, Disney Mix, & Konamix), so it was a plus for anyone that had the home version and if they made any edits on those, it could be easily transfered to the later PS2 games (DDRMAX - DDRExtreme 2). If I remember correctly, PS3 can't play PS1 or PS2 games (or so thats what I was told), so if your a player like me, who has every single ddr game, your basically S.O.L.

idk, i think a PS3 release would be both good and bad...but i think that there is a possibility of a PS3 release somewhere in the coming future...
the PS3 version would most likely have over 150 songs...or more if they use the disk space (that and if they don't make the background dancers HD...that would look somewhat weird) and with that you have a possibility of putting songs that weren't releases in the US, plus song favorites from the 1st mix to SN2, bemani crossovers, xbox (and 360) songs (i know i want some songs from the xbox version to appear in the coming title =D) and some other extras (behind the scenes? at least a little extras in making the songs? something?)

Speaking of which, if they release a title this year, it would commemorate the 10th anniversary of DDR, which gives MANY possibilities as to what kinds of songs and extras they might put into the next upcoming title (more posible remixes of some of the original songs, PARANOIA, Trip Machine, and another MAX? can't wait XD). eh, just a thought, were just gonna have to wait for any news or anything about it (summer '08 maybe)

If not, then the PS2 title might come up with something cool for this years title...i just hope it will have some good songs and the remaining songs from SN2, SN, and Extreme.

Max is back making DDR videos! This time it will include DDR X US CS and soon enough, the DDR X AC!

NEW VIDEOS!!

I really don't care for a PS3 release simply because I don't own a PS3 and probably won't for a good while.

I would have no interest at all in a PS3 DDR game. I don't own a PS3, and I doubt that I'll own one for a very long time. I'm perfectly satisfied with playing annual releases on PS2. If Konami for whatever reason decides to abandon the PS2, then I think that the PS2 DDR series should move to the Wii. The PS3 is by far and away in last place in terms of total number of consoles sold, so moving the series to that platform would limit the number of available end users as much as possible.

I really don't think its necessary at all for a PS3 release. Most PS3's aren't fully compatible with the older versions. Konami will not utilize the entire blu ray disk to add more music content. They will only waste that space with HD graphics. I just don't need a 1080p Afro! If a PS3 version is released I don't even think it will sell that well. Its just shear numbers of consoles sold really.

I don't think it would be bad for the series, just bad for Konami.

I would hope there would be no lag if it was on the PS3.

Do people have PS3s? I thought they were a million dollars. On top of that, people would have to plunk down more dough for a pad or pads and the game. I would think more people have other systems.

Anyone here play DDR?

I think it would be good, but there are major problems with the current next-gen selections.

DDR Universe has a diverse set of songs, and great charts, but it's nearly impossible to play unless you turn BG videos off...And that doesn't make it 100% great either.

HP was good, but it felt more like a "Party" type game rather than an actual DDR release. I mean, all the gimicks are cool and all, but they should've been in a seperate mode, not used in regular game mode.

I completely support a PS3 DDR game (I'm assuming SN3 or whatever the next AC release is gonna be) as long as PS2 pads are useable (I heard something about there being lag on them when using the PS2>Usb thingy) and that you guys add more songs than are usually on the PS2 versions (100 maybe?)

All that being said, I don't think it's *quite* time to be setting off any of the bemani main series games to a next-gen system yet. Adventure CS has yet to be announced (AFAIK) and it looks like Party will work fine on the PS2. Gold isn't getting a release until May, and even then they still have Troopers CS to deal with, which will likely be in the later months of 2008. I think one more main-series DDR PS2 game is in order (The JP version would be released in early 2009, making it perfect for all the bemani series to go on to the next gen at the same time). Also, I think it would be wise to make multi-console releases (Meaning PS3 and Wii, at least for main-series games because 360 does crap in Japan) with DDR/IIDX/Pop'n.

Support Japanese licenses in DDR!

I'd say wait it out for a bit until PS3 sales increase a bit more. Right now I don't think it'd be wise to release a PS3 DDR. But thats just me.

Well, a DDR can work on PS3. Here's my idea on it:

Konami releases one DDR game for PS3. They can call it whatever, but don't expect there to be a 2. The game comes with a base of about 200-300 songs from past US/JP DDR games, maybe a few new ones. Now, instead of releasing new games, Konami will have song packs on the PS Store for download, like a new song pack every 6 months, as if it were a new release. As more and more song packs come out, which contain songs both new and old, you can increase your library more and more until your HDD can't hold anymore, but by then you'll have thousand of official DDR songs! You can even download custom themes, such as older mix themes or new custom themes. This would be an excellent thing for PS3 DDR.

I would rather there be more PS2 releases. I don't have a PS3, and don't plan to get one for a few years, when/if they get the hardware working right/decent backwards compatibility/non-ridiculous price.

That said, if I were king of the world and could make the perfect PS3 mix, it would have two modes:

One, regular game. Pop in the disc and play as you do with every other DDR game.

Two, shell mode. Pop in the disc, then select the shell mode (perhaps there's a better term?) and swap out with another DDR game disc that contains song data. A PS2 or PS1 disc - heck, while I'm wishing for impossibilities, Xbox discs too! And homemade discs with Stepmania-style vustoms songs! Point is, you'd pop in one of those discs and play it in the PS3 shell, with the same interface, grading system, high FPS, speed mods, et cetera. This would allow me to play songs I have on games with interfaces I just can't work with, such as the Xbox's low FPS and the PS1's lack of speed mods, and I could also play perfectly good PS2 games without having to have two systems hooked up to my TV.

Song packs are also a good idea, but I don't have the connection to get 'em, soI won't wish for what I couldn't use.

Personally, I would leave it on the PS2. The install base is huge, we don't need the improved graphics that would come with a PS3 release, and many people have shelled out decent sums of money on PS2 mats which to the best of my knowledge are not compatible with the PS3 unless an adapter is used, though I hear these adapters are prone to lag. Also, I don't have a PS3. Tongue out

I think the biggest benefit to bringing DDR to the PS3 would be the online component. Features like sharing custom stepcharts and detailed leaderboards would be cool.

If Konami does decide to bring DDR to the PS3 the thing I would want most of all would be an official Konami adapter to let us use our PS2 mats (and IIDX/pop'n/GF/DM controllers too for any potential PS3 mixes of these games). The new PS3 mat could end in a PS2 port and just plug in to this adapter too. The adapter could also allow for real backwards compatibilty with PS2 / PS1 DDR titles.

I would also like to see that PS3 disc filled with old Bemani songs.

if you are going to make a DDR for PS3, it better have a HUGE song list since your going into blu-ray. I would be very disappointed if the graphics were not very good, and the song list did not have more then 120 songs. You could 100 songs on a PS2 disc, so there should be no problem.

If you have a huge songlist consisting of numerous past songs, then what is the point of buying a past release...?

Why does everyone think a PS3 release would require more songs just because of bluray? None of the current releases maximize on available disc space. You could easily double the the amount of music on HP, U, or U2 no problem.

I also think many songs wouldn't necessarily be a good thing. I loaded up StepMania with 5GB of song data and guess what... it's a mess and everyone spends too much time previewing music rather than dancing.

I personally would like to see genre specific downloadable content where you could purchase the type of music you want to dance to at a reasonable price. The DLC should be playable for every DDR release on the platform. I'd also like Konami to spend the money they made off HP on a better Wii release rather than dump it into the PS3.

Edit- Also, I would never buy a PS2 past release. I'm not investing in old hardware, no matter how fun the old games are. These songs should be made available as DLC for current gen hardware. Just my opinion.

Well as it is I don't have a PS3 and don't plan to get one anytime soon. This stems moslty because of it's price. As a college student that works at a few schools on the side money is kind of tight to invest in the next gen games systems. And the games they make for it don't make me want to jump the fence anytime soon.

Having said all that what I would really want to see in a PS3 release is more background moives for songs. I realy like those in the PS2 games. As it is I know that you guys would only want to put so many songs on a mix but if you can change the average number of songs from 70 to 80 or 85 I would think that would be cool.

If the PS3 verson does come out I'll buy it regardles of not having a PS3. And just look at it saddly. :(

Not everybody has a PS3 and it is too expensive....I also agree that the PS2 is doing very still.

In future games I'd love to see more classics and stuff from Europe and Japan.

I DON'T want to see: Oldies and pop songs...they don't really belong in DDR in my opinion.

<--- Also doesn't own a PS3.

<--- Buys all the PS2 games no questions asked.

As far as rhythm games go, there's no difference between the 360 and the PS3. High def, downloadable songpacks, vague network play... I think that's everything. The Ultramixes and Universes are doing all the next-gen DDR stuff already. I can't think of anything that they could do that they don't already do.

Well, if they don't move to PS3, then they'll eventually lose their entire ps fanbase. Nothing will be compatible and people will eventually be forced to buy an xbox to continue to play ddr. That sounds like a really bad idea, especially considering the way the bluray/hddvd 'war' is going.... well, how it ended. I'm glad I didn't spring for that hddvd! If for no other reason than to maintain the playstation fanbase, konami should put a ps3 version (AND PAD!) out. I can't think of any reason they can't put out a proper driver update / hardware to make a usb native pad work without lag.

Can the xbox do everything a ps3 can do wrt ddr? Probably, EXCEPT keep the playstation fanbase. Should Konami make an adapter/pad/driver to make past versions of ddr compatible with existing ps3 hardware/software? Absolutely. And that should be the main priority BEFORE putting out any new versions of ddr for ps3.

What can a ps3 do for ddr? Already mentioned, it should be able to play all the past versions of ddr that were out for ps and ps2. It should be compatible with all past pads and save games (provided you have the adapter to port your ps2 save games over of course).

Just like the fanbase moved from the SNES -> PS years ago, I think there's a shift going on from PS to other consoles right now. The games are just not there, it's expensive, and sony has lost a ton of credibility with their stupid positions. ATRAC vs. MP3, rootkits, and their latest stating it's illegal to rip your purchased CD to your portable... c'mon!

I for one won't be buying a PS3. But now I am getting _way_ off topic... sorry for the rant.

I am curious why Konami isn't asking us for opinions on the other consoles?
