Here is a way I like to play from time to time with my friends.  I hadn't done it in a long while, but I just went with a large group of friends to TGA on Saturday and we decided to goof around.  Anyway, here is how you play:

Two people play on Doubles.  One person starts on the left pad and the other starts on the right.  Behind these players is everyone else (you need at least 3 people to play like this).  The song starts and both people play their respective arrows.  When a section comes up where one player can see there aren't any arrows on his side for bit, he hops off the side of the pad and someone from behind hops on from between the bars.  The person who was just playing gets in line behind the pads.  This continues until the song is over.  This mode works well for Nonstop courses.

It can get pretty goofy with miscommunications, stepping on peoples feet, both people jump off at the same time by accident, etc.

Has anyone else played like this?  Did you think it was fun?  Do you have another vation on Doubles that you think is fun?  Share your thoughts.

Obviously I liked doing that, I was there haha.

But another variation I've seen was one some friends of mine did a few times.

It's just with two people, and one person starts on the pad alone. You know how the arrows usually zigzag across the pad? Well you start on one side and when you reach the other side you jump off, and the other person picks up where you left off. It doesn't work for every song, as Darryl pointed out, but for some songs it's a lot of fun. I've never done it though.

A friend of mine also used to play doubles with 2 people, just for fun. Sort of like a really ghetto co-operative mode? I think they had something like that in the earlier mixes, I know it's on DDR PS1 US.

I've done turns with single songs while I jump off during a part where there are no steps and let someone else take over for me.

It gets fun when there is a nonstop or crazy-hard oni course.

OH THAT'S what you were doing. I just assumed you were a crazy person doing something crazy. :) Have I met you? Because now I remember you. Or I have a 1/3 chance of remembering you.

I'd be up for that. Watching the crazy people go at it made me want to play some doubles. Which I did.

I used o have this aweosme freestyle routine where me and another person would both do Doubles, on two machines right next to eachother.

What we did was DXY! on Trick/Standard, and the machine on the right had Mirror on.

So it was a basic freestyle but whenever the player on the left machine got to 2P Right arrow and player on the right machine got to 1P Left arrow, we'd switch machines. This worked well especially at the "just disturbed guys" part.

But yeah, it's fun and looks cool for the audience (plus double volume :P)

That sounds pretty fun.  I wish I had two machines to try it out on.

I wish I had been playing when Xgates had 4 machines or whatever. 4 player synchronized doubles? It wouldn't be a game then, it'd be a performance haha.

You guys should try it with AA [Double Expert]...lol is kinda hard, but it is possible :P

Me? I've done it some times,...like 3 years ago... but I'm a single and double player, so I know most of the songs ^^U

It might work with AA. The steps for that song are so good I'm not sure if I'd want to do them with someone else, haha. It might also make for some strange body movements, and I don't feel like falling off the pad. Again. Lol.

I can imagine some intense train wrecks happening with AA.  It would be impressive if you could get it down though.

Well if the JP home version of SuperNOVA has AA on it (I think it does), then you could slow it down in training mode to practice. If that's still a feature in SN I can't say, I hope it is. Losing the music for training mode speeds 1-4 in the US games was a baaaad thing.

Wow, that's such a cool idea!  I never have anyone to play DDR with, but if I ever happen to play alongside anyone, I will definitely suggest this cool and freaky doubles mode!
