Let's see...  This song originally appeared in Guitar Freaks 5th Mix/DrumMania 4th mix and features many complex guitar, drum, and keyboard melodies.  Its first DDR appearance is in SuperNOVA and it's 254 BPM.

Here's my setup.  This is a really old pic, and I don't have that Ignition pad anymore, it died.  Otherwise the setup is nearly the same.  I also have a video of my current setup on my YouTube channel.

YES, GET A NEW PAD.  You should have gotten one the second your current pad ripped.

Since you're getting into heavy now, I wouldn't recommend getting anything less than a RedOctane Ignition pad.  They're about $100, but they last quite a while.

Your crappy pad could possibly be what's been holding you back.  Or maybe it's because you've been holding back from trying heavy.  To improve, you've gotta play songs that are 1-2 feet harder than what you're comfortable with.  I learned that the hard way, I was stuck on 7s and 8s for a LONG time.

Well, anyway, I full comboed Max 300 Super-Max-Me Mix Oni a few days ago.  Unfortunately I don't have a video.

My youtube vids include AA on FELM Oni, A on Pluto Relinquish and Trigger Oni, AAs on most other boss songs from SN to X, and a bunch of other random AAAs.

I did some research, apparently Fascination -eternal love mix is one of the hardest songs as its a remix of Fascination MAXX by 2MB, unlocked via e-Amusement in Japan and by the sync patch everywhere else. Its difficulty is comparable to Fascination MAXX. The maximum speed is 400 BPM and the minimum is 100. Though the difficulty is based more on complexity and technique rather than stamina, the song is still very hard. Its Challenge steps, however, are arguably the hardest steps of any DDR song, mainly due to its relentless streams of fast jumps.

Yes, the arcade timing windows are much tighter than those at home.  You'll find yourself getting a lot more greats.

So anyway, I don't really have a preference to Arcade or Home, since I don't play at an arcade enough to really get into it.  I say whatever works for you, stick with it (not specifically you, maxninja, but 'you' in general). 

Dude, I never learned to play guitar, EVER.  It really has nothing to do with your guitar hero skill.

About the drums, I think drum experience helps, but definitely isn't necessary.

I don't have the game, but gamefaqs says you have to AA 3 songs on expert and then beat the challenge to get it. 

My favorite DDR game for PS2 is either DDRX or DDRMAX.  Both those games represent their generation of DDR, and have tons of great music.

And some tips?  Hmm...

Don't move your feet back to the middle after each arrow.  This is probably the most important rule for new DDR players.
Use the beat of the music to sync your steps to the beat.  Most DDR songs have a clear bassline that's easy to clock in with and follow.

True, but I can get a 95.7% on FELM Oni, while I can only get an 84% on Paranoia Hades.  That chart is straight HELL.

But yeah, I see where you're coming from with the others. 

It may be just me, but I think FELM Oni is much easier to pass and score well on than a lot of the other newer boss songs, like Trigger, Paranoia Hades, Pluto Relinquish, NGO, Healing-D-Vision, Fascination MAXX, etc. (all on Oni).

I usually alternate between Emi, Rage, and Yuni.  I dunno, maybe it's just because I think they're the best-looking characters.

But I just found out DDR X US CS has Concent Kyo-fu and Dark Zukin  so I'll probably start using them. 

For me I seem do to just as well either way.  I don't think there would be much of a difference in my PA at all between playing with the volume off or playing with dark on.  I guess I'm some kind of freak that keeps a beat extremely well...

For me it's a tie between Happy Hardcore, Rave, and Techno.
